8 Small Washington Coastal Towns That Outdoor Lovers Adore for Perfect Weekend Getaways

If you’re into outdoor activities and love the coast, Washington has plenty of small towns that might just become your next favorite getaway spots. These towns offer a mix of natural beauty and outdoor fun without feeling overcrowded or touristy.

You can find peaceful coastal towns where you can hike, kayak, whale-watch, or just relax by the water. Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or a longer trip, these places provide great opportunities to enjoy nature and recharge.

Washington’s Evergreen Coast

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape, Washington’s Evergreen Coast is a great spot. You’ll find charming small towns with a rich history tied to fishing, oyster farming, and logging. The area offers stunning beaches and misty forests where you can breathe in fresh ocean air.

There’s plenty to do outdoors here. You can enjoy fresh local seafood, fly a kite on the beach, or ride a bike through scenic areas. The natural beauty and small communities make it easy to slow down and soak in the Pacific Northwest vibe.

The Evergreen Coast is conveniently located along Highway 101, making it a perfect stop if you’re driving between Seattle and Portland. You’ll find state parks, wildlife, and historic lighthouses nearby to explore. It’s a place where every day can bring a new outdoor adventure.

In winter, you won’t want to miss the Crab Pot Christmas Tree Lighting in Ilwaco, a unique event that lights up a towering tree made of crab pots right on the waterfront.

Pacific Beach State Park

If you’re looking for a laid-back spot to camp right along the Pacific Ocean, this state park is a great choice. You’ll find tent sites, RV hookups, and even yurts to rent. The beach is wide and sandy, perfect for running around, flying a kite, or just chilling while listening to the waves.

Keep in mind that fires are only allowed in designated grills and fire pits, and wood fires aren’t permitted in the campground. You can safely use propane or gas grills instead. Also, dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash.

The park experiences seasonal flooding, and some sites are only available on a first-come, first-served basis during the off months. You can drive on the beach on firm sand, but there’s a 25 mph speed limit, and all standard road rules apply. Just watch out for the strong rip currents and drift logs if you’re swimming or fishing.

There’s limited day-use parking and only eight picnic tables, so if you plan to visit with a group, it’s a good idea to call ahead.
